Paul Chartier
Principal, Praxis Consultants
Paul has been involved in AIDC technology for over 30 years, and
established Praxis Consultants in 1980. Various international industry
bodies have retained him to develop over 20 application standards using
OCR, bar code and RFID technology. He has a deep understanding of the
breadth and variety of user applications. With
particular relevance to RFID standards, he is Project Editor for ISO
standards (ISO/IEC 15961 and ISO/IEC 15962) dealing with a data
protocol allowing users to communicate with, and encode data on, RFID
tags. The data protocol supports a variety of sectors and multiple tag architectures and frequencies. He is also Project Editor of ISO/IEC 24753, for processing of information from sensors attached to RFID tags. In 2003, he was appointed Visiting Professor at the Technology Innovation Centre, part of the University of Central England.
Peter Hawkes Consultant
Peter has a BSc in Special Chemistry and Physics from Queen Mary
College, London University. After graduation he worked for GEC where he
led a team pioneering the application of integrated circuits in
telecommunications. After joining the NRDC, BTG’s predecessor body, he
initiated several projects on smart cards, biometric identification and
secure network technology. The early part of this work was done in
collaboration with Donald Davies of the National Physical Laboratory,
the inventor of Packet Data Switching. In 1992 this experience led to
recognition of the future potential of the contactless smart card and
its close relative, the RFID tag. Since then Peter has participated in
the development of the international standards needed for these devices
and provided invaluable technical advice on the production of RFID chip
prototypes. He has published widely on these and related topics; a
number of these papers are available on this website. peter.hawkes@rfipsolutions.com

supply chain environments. Her work in manufacturing companies includes
the implementation of the following systems: production planning,
production support, time and attendance, warehousing and
transportation, finance, controlling and purchasing
Catherine’s recent portfolio includes leading a successful
traceability project within a large multinational paper company and
working on RFID implementations in the mines of South Africa. She holds
a BSc in Geography from Leeds University and a Post Graduate Diploma in
